Installfest This Thursday

SOCIS will be running a Linux Installfest next Thursday (October 25th) in the Reynolds basement lab (room 001A.)

EDIT: Starting at 7:00 PM

What's This Event About?
SOCIS exec and the local gurus will help you install linux along side windows on your computer, wether it is a laptop or desktop.

Almost any computer can run linux, but you will need around 7 Gigabytes of disk free to make the linux partition. It is also a good idea to run a defrag before coming, as these can take quite a while.

For those who bring a desktop we have displays, mice, and keybords available, so all you need to do is bring your tower.

If you bring a laptop, please bring you power cable.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post.

Backups

To be safe I would suggest backing up any important information before coming as well. Loosing data is EXTREMELY rare but it does occur. It usually happens when someone's hard drive is corrupt or overly fragmented.

I would suggest...

Backing up any important information at all times! :) Not just before Installfests.

Remember the two rules of computing:

1. Back it up.
2. Do it now.

See you there!

Installation CD

I won't be able to attend Installfest, as I've got prior commitments. Is there any way I could get an installation CD so I could install linux myself? I don't have access to a CD burner, so I can't just download it myself.

And just to make sure, it is the same version of linux as in the labs, right?

7.04 is what is in the

7.04 is what is in the labs.
I can save one for you, send me a email and we can find a time to exchange...
