SOCIS Name Change

Hey everyone,
As most of you guys know, the Department of Computing and Information Science has changed their name to the School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph. To reflect this change, SOCIS (the Society of Computing and Information Science) may change it's name.
Approximately 3 years ago, we used to have the name Computer Science Club, and we still own the domain name cs-club.org. This is a potential name for us, and would make a transition fairly easy.
There are a few other suggestions I heard, like Computer Science Society and Society of Computer Science. Unfortunately, we can't use SoCS, because of the School of Computer Science...but we're open to other suggestions.
For the next week, we'll be open to new suggestions, or you can come by our meeting on Thursday at 5:30 PM to tell us what you think. If for whatever reason you'd like your suggestion to remain annonymous, feel free to email us at exec@socis.ca , or me personally at president@socis.ca .
Available suggestions so far:
- Computer Science Society (CSS)
- Computer Science Club (CSC)
- Keep the name Society of Computing and Information Science (SOCIS)
Let us know what you think :)
P.S. We'll set up a poll after the next meeting :)

Wasn't there some contrived
Wasn't there some contrived political reasoning behind changing the name from a club to a society? Something to do with funding / recognition?
Now we can just switch back... just like that?

The trouble with computers is that they do what you tell them, not what you want.
The CPES constitution used
The CPES constitution used to (still does?) distinguish "societies" from "clubs", which is how Engsoc gets their guaranteed funding. When we attempted to pass an amendment to do the same arrangement for the CS-Club at the time, the single argument used for the 'nay' side was that we were a club, not a society.
I would suggest checking up on the CPES constitution as it would suck to be stuck in such a position in the future.

As the CPES SC contact, I'll look in to it. Not having to ask for money is good, especially when they *have* to give it to us.
This is related to what I brought to the general meeting yesterday: the SOP contract/agreement is being renegotiated/reworked for next fall. Society status is something I'm very interested in attaining for SOCIS.
Maybe we can get those gold plated cables and snazzy jackets then, eh?

Here is the CPES SC Consitution.
In Article III of the "Clubs" section, is says:
So there we go. If we want to be a "Society", we need to set it up for next year, and maintain it until basically all of us graduate in order for the benefits to exist for anyone.
Are we that dedicated? I think that'd be a worthwhile legacy to leave behind, and I've got at least one more year where I'm willing to work as an exec [provided all of you let me].
