Tonight is the "Get to know OS X" seminar.
Location: Reynolds 008 [Mac Lab in the basement, across from the SOCIS lounge]
Time and duration: 7:00pm start time, end the structured seminar components ~8:15pm, Q&A after that time. There will be a short break in between sections.
It'll be broken in to two sections.
[7:00pm] The first is a guided tour of the desktop, file system, some included applications, system maintenence, accessibility, how to deal with disk images, user and system preferences and more.
[~7:40pm] The second section will be specificly for those interested in programming on a Mac, with a look at using the terminal, developing with Xcode, and a demonstration of my favorite text editor, TextMate [macromates.com]
If you've never used OS X before, and want to become more familiar, come out for the first section.
If you're already familiar with OS X and/or want to know how to use the included tools available for development, stay for the second section.
I will stay around for a bit after the seminar is over to answer any specific questions anyone has, and talk about how I get things done on my Mac.
[Note: we will be using 10.5.x as a demo, not 10.6, Snow Leopard. If you don't know what that means, it won't impact you.
As well, the lab machines in Reynolds require login/passwords; if you're not a CIS student, you may not be able to access a machine on your own. You'll have to shoulder surf, share a lab machine with someone else, or, better yet, bring your own.]
